Governor Brewer Continues Freeze on New Regulatory Burdens

Governor Jan Brewer today issued a memo continuing her January 22, 2009 management directive to state agencies calling for a temporary freeze on all new state government regulations. The temporary freeze was set to expire on April 30, 2009 and has been continued to June 30, 2009.

During the temporary freeze, Governor Brewer's staff has been compiling and analyzing all regulatory rulemakings. Several rulemaking exceptions impacting health, public safety and the budget have been granted, and the rulemakings are proceeding through the administrative process.

"My staff has been diligently and thoroughly reviewing all regulatory mandates set in motion by the previous administration," stated Brewer. "We have already identified several administrative rules that are obsolete and should be repealed. Continuing this moratorium will allow state agencies additional time to perform due diligence in identifying rules that may be appropriately or inappropriately affecting our state, our citizens and Arizona's economic vibrancy and potential."
